Biography

Stephanie Shroyer is a professor of theatre practice in the School of Dramatic Arts’ performance area. She has taught courses across the school’s degree programs, both undergraduate and graduate, and directed and/or choreographed 40 productions at USC. In addition to her teaching and educational directing, Shroyer has been an active administrator in SDA, having served in positions of associate dean, director of BFA programs, artistic director and associate artistic director.

Professionally, she is a Los Angeles-based director, choreographer and actor — having directed and/or choreographed at the American Conservatory Theatre, the Denver Center, the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts, the Berkeley Shakespeare Festival, and locally at the Pasadena Playhouse, Disney Hall/LA Philharmonic Toyota Youth Concert Series, The Getty Villa, The Matrix, Pacific Resident Theatre, A Noise Within, Laguna Playhouse, The Odyssey, Stages, The Antaeus Company, Alliance Repertory, 24th Street Theatre, Andak Stage Company, The Met (Showtimes’ Act One Play Series), Cal Arts, UCLA and Whitman College. Shroyer has acted professionally at the American Conservatory Theatre, Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts, the Denver Center, and on film and television.

Shroyer is a founding company member of Pacific Resident Theatre in Venice, CA. and was artistic director when the company was honored with the Margaret Harford Award for Continuous Achievement from the LA Drama Critics Circle. She was the founding artistic director of the 24th Street Theatre, a Los Angeles professional theatre dedicated to bringing the arts and arts education to South Central Los Angeles neighborhoods and established the theatre’s participation as a regular School of Dramatic Arts Partner recipient of USC’s Neighborhood Outreach (UNO) funding program.

She is a three-time recipient of the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for her direction. Other directorial, choreographic and acting recognition includes LADCC, Ovation, L.A. Weekly and Broadway World L.A. nominations; the Valley Theatre League Award; eight Scenie Awards; nine Drama-Logue Awards; and a Garland Award. At the University of Southern California, she was nominated for the Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring Award by the USC Parent’s Association and for the USC’s Associates Award for Artistic Expression by her peers at the School of Dramatic Arts.
