About the Collaboration
The USC School of Dramatic Arts (SDA) is proud to join the renowned USC Trojan Marching Band in its spectacular halftime performance, bringing together the diverse talents and programs that make SDA a world-class training ground for the next generation of storytellers and creative professionals.
This performance embodies SDA’s commitment to training artists for all media—from traditional stage work to film, television, digital platforms, and now even massive scoreboards and football fields. It also showcases the artistry of students from across our comprehensive dramatic arts training programs: performers from our BFA in Musical Theatre and BFA in Acting for Stage & Screen, alongside artists from our BA in Dramatic Arts with both Musical Theatre and Acting Emphasis tracks. Professor Randy Blair, who teaches our BFA Movie Musical course, directed both the stage and the screen portions of the performance; Professor Melissa Treinkman provided vocal coaching for our “triple threat” singers, and the choreography you see is by one of our multihyphenated students, Keira Osborne. The stunning costumes that bring these performances to life are the work of our innovative Theatrical Design program’s faculty, including the indispensable Ann Closs-Farley, as well as its students and alumni; the vocal tracks have been expertly recorded by the talented artists in our BFA in Sound Design program, including our Chair of Design, Philip G. Allen; and we have been under the guidance of the incredibly talented students in our BFA in Stage Management program.
We are also proud to recognize SDA faculty who have appeared on Broadway in Wicked, including Professor Alexandra Billings, who played Madame Morrible, and Professor Jenni Barber, who played Glinda!
Most of all, SDA is proud to collaborate with the student musicians of the Trojan Marching Band, “The Greatest Marching Band in the History of the Universe, Ever”! These dedicated students represent the breadth and excellence of our entire university community. Creativity is foundational across USC, woven into our research leadership, scholarly inquiry, community engagement, and so much more—in other words, the arts and artistic thinking are part of the fabric of this university and this halftime performance celebrates that.
Fight On!
