Where to stream Trojan alums while you work from home

Watch SDA alums on your favorite streaming platforms with this guide

At the USC School of Dramatic Arts, our alumni boast an incredible repertoire of film and television: from comedy to drama, their work can be streamed on pretty much any streaming platform. While you practice safe social distancing, here’s a quick guide to get you started, featuring just a few of our many successful alumni:

Movies

1. Watch Forest Whitaker (also known for roles in Good Morning, Vietnam, Bird, Platoon, and more) deliver his Oscar- and Golden Globe-winning performance in The Last King of Scotland on Hulu.

2. While watching this year’s acclaimed Netflix film Marriage Story, you’ll spot alumnus McKinley Belcher III, who graduated from SDA’s MFA program in 2010 and recently starred in A Soldier’s Play on Broadway.

3. See mystery movie Where’d You Go, Bernadette on Hulu, with alumna Troian Bellisario, who you may recognize from Pretty Little Liars (available on HBO Max).

4. Cult smash Safety Not Guaranteed (available on Crackle and Amazon Prime) features BA alum Karan Soni on an uncanny road trip alongside Aubrey Plaza and Jake Johnson.

5. If you’re looking for an inspirational sports film to get you through the safer-at-home period, find rugby film The Nomads, starring Tate Donovan, on Amazon Prime.

6. 1971 film classic Straw Dogs features alumnus Sam Peckinpah, and is available for streaming on Amazon. If you’re feeling fancy, you can also stream it via the Criterion Collection.

7. Alum Timothy Dowling’s film Pixels is available on Amazon Prime, and features previous Spotlight@SDA speaker Josh Gad alongside Adam Sandler, Kevin James, and more.

8. Stream the 2019 Rent! Live special from Fox on Vudu, and enjoy lighting direction by Emmy-winning alum Madigan Stehly.

Television

Patrick J. Adams in Suits

9. Hit series Suits, featuring Patrick J. Adams, is on the shelf at on Hulu—what better time than now to catch up on all nine seasons?

10. Nichole Bloom recurs in Shameless on Netflix and Showtime, and more recently is a regular on Superstore on NBC and Hulu.

11. Episodic miniseries Weird City features LeVar Burton on YouTube Originals. To see Burton in his role as Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generation, pivot to either Netflix or Hulu.

12. If you’re looking to binge all 15 seasons of hit series ER, head to Hulu and keep an eye out for Anthony Edwards as Dr. Mark Green. You can also find him as Goose in Top Gun on Amazon Prime or as the White House Chief of Staff on Designated Survivor on Netflix.

13. Catch Ryan Eggold on action series The Blacklist on Netflix and Hulu, then pivot to Crackle to watch him star in The Blacklist: Redemption.

14. Judd Apatow’s 2016 Netflix series Love includes alum Briga Heelan as Heidi McAuliffe.

15. Alum Sara Fox served as key costumer for the Disney+ smash hit The Mandalorian .

16. In the supernatural category, you can find alumnus J. August Richards in almost every episode of Angel (1999 spinoff of Buffy the Vampire Slayer), streaming on Hulu.

Queen Sugar on OWN

17. Alum Anthony Sparks serves as executive producer, showrunner, and writer on OWN TV’s new show Queen Sugar, now available on Hulu.

18. Catch Danny Strong’s series Empire on FOX or Hulu, and of course relive the later seasons of Gilmore Girls on Netflix, where Strong plays Doyle.

19. Hulu miniseries Looking for Alaska, based on the novel by John Green, features alum Jay Lee as Takumi.

20. Alum Brian Jordan Alvarez is hilarious in the NBC reboot of Will & Grace, available on Hulu.

21. For the kids, find DuckTales featuring alum Beck Bennett on Disney+. You may also know Bennett from Saturday Night Live on NBC and Hulu, where he’s a regular cast member.

Bonus: Board of Councilors member Blair Underwood stars in Netflix’s brand new biopic series Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker, alongside Octavia Spencer and Tiffany Haddish. The first season premiered on Friday, March 20, and is already generating buzz about a second season.
