One of the funniest comedies of the Restoration, The Country Wife paints a picture of a rakish hero named Horner, who regularly brags, cheats and lies to seduce the wives and daughters of London’s most prominent businessmen. Horner must pull out all the stops to protect his bad reputation, when he encounters Pinchwife’s naïve country bride.
