LeVar Burton is best known for hosting the children’s educational program Reading Rainbow, and launched a new online educational service based on the television series. Burton began his career starring as Kunta Kinte in Roots, which earned him an Emmy award nomination in 1977, and co-produced a remake of the show that premiered 2016. He also starred in the show Star Trek: The Next Generation. He has appeared in the television shows Weird City and Perception, and voices Doc Greene and others in Transformers: Rescue Bots. He was in the film Practice Makes Perfect and will play himself in the upcoming film Definition Please. He hosts the podcast LeVar Burton Reads.
