Tell us about yourself and your connection with Donuts with the Dean.
Lori Ray Fisher: My name is Lori Ray Fisher and I serve as the Vice Dean for the School of Dramatic Arts. I have been with the School for over 25 years and had the privilege of helping the School grow, develop and change into one of the most competitive Dramatic Arts programs in the country. I, too, am a USC alum, earning both my undergraduate and graduate degrees from USC.
Why is Donuts with the Dean a valuable resource that SDA students should know about?
Donuts with the Dean is an excellent opportunity for our students to meet and talk directly with the Dean and Vice-Dean. It is a reserved space for students to bring their concerns and get answers directly from SDA Leadership. During these sessions, the Dean will often share upcoming plans and programs that will support students and expand the growth of our School. Plus, each meeting has amazing donuts from different locations around the city!
What is the most underutilized resource at the Dean’s Office for students?
Students do not take advantage of the wonderful theatrical library collection of former SDA Professor Paul Backer. Professor Backer passed away in 2016 and upon his passing, his mother donated his expansive book collection to our School. His collection consists of vintage books and classics. It is truly a beautiful collection. Books are available for check-out in the Dean’s Suite on the 4th floor of the Dramatic Arts Building.
What is one thing about Donuts with the Dean you wish all SDA students knew?
Donuts with Dean is not only an excellent time to meet with the Dean, but it is also a great time to meet and network with other SDA students. This forum becomes a space for students to hear the projects and programs that their peers are working on. This exchange of information sparks involvement and is also very informative.
Where can SDA students find more information about Donuts with the Dean?
Students should check the SDA Newsletter for upcoming dates and times. They can also email the Dean’s Office for more information.
