In mid-October, the USC School of Dramatic Arts (SDA) hosted comedian and SDA alumnus David Magidoff’s Making Love With David Magidoff show, featuring guest stars Oscar Nuñez, Calum Worthy, Timothy Simons and Lisa Loeb, among others. Magidoff, who hosts a monthly show at the Elysian Theatre in Los Angeles, brought his signature format to campus for this special event.

The sold-out event was held at the Bing Theatre and was free to USC students, with proceeds from paid public tickets going to SDA scholarships. Magidoff spent the evening interviewing his guests about their love lives and, with help from guest performers, transformed their awkward stories into improvised musical numbers, comedy scenes, and even interpretive dances.

Magidoff interviewed actors Timothy Simons, largely known for Veep and Nobody Wants This, and Oscar Nuñez, best known for his role in The Office. These actors recalled some of their funniest real-life moments with their wives, whether it was proposal stories, asking for their numbers, or awkward moments abroad. Magidoff and friends then turned the actors’ stories into comedic works of art that kept the audience laughing.

Throughout the show, the audience saw performances by Grammy Award-winning musician Lisa Loeb, author and comedian Brit Barron, and actor Calum Worthy, known for Austin & Ally. The troupe of improv and musical superstars who joined Magidoff throughout the evening included Michaela Watkins, Kimber Condict, Arielle Estoria, Zack Reaves, Lulu Clark and Propaganda.

The evening also featured an a cappella performance by the ISP group the Troy Tones.

For USC students, the evening served as both entertainment and inspiration, highlighting the comedy training available at the School of Dramatic Arts. SDA offers a variety of comedy classes, whether students are excited about improv, stand-up, sketch, or even medical clowning. These elective classes are open to all students regardless of experience or major, offering the same creative energy and collaborative spirit that made this event so memorable.
