Amsterdam
October 10–20, 2019
Summary
In Maya Arad Yasur’s Amsterdam, a pregnant Israeli violinist sets out to trace the origins of a gas bill from 1944, which she found outside her door. Over the next 24 hours, she gradually becomes aware of the significance of her own origins in an increasingly xenophobic and misogynist environment.
Director Lilach Dekel-Avneri is a visiting artist who is at the School thanks to support from the Israel Institute, an independent, nonpartisan, non-advocacy organization that advances rigorous teaching, research and discourse about modern Israel in partnership with leading academic and cultural institutions.
