Biography

Sabra Williams has received international acclaim for her work as an actor, host, founder of The Actors’ Gang Prison Project and co-founder of Creative Acts, including being named by President Obama a “Champion of Change,” honored with a British Empire Medal for services to the Arts & Prison Reform by Queen Elizabeth and awarded the Local Hero Award at the 2023 American Democracy Summit.

Creative Acts is a Social Justice initiative that uses the Arts as the tool for transformation. We have Civic Engagement Arts programs across LA County youth prisons, anti-racism training and a Virtual Reality Arts Reentry program in adult maximum security prisons and solitary confinement, for people returning after life sentences.

Sabra is a Visiting Lecturer at UCLA and an Adjunct Professor at the USC School of Dramatic Arts. She is a Bellagio Rockefeller Resident Fellow and an in-demand speaker on justice and Arts issues.

Sabra’s first book, Beauty in the Beast: The Power of the Arts Behind Bars is on its way.
