This season, several School of Dramatic Arts alumni will be starring in or working behind the scenes on new shows for major American cable and broadcast television channels. Here are just some of the alums working on TV series premiering in 2016-17.
Amber Coney in Freeform’s Dead of Summer
Coney (BFA ’14) stars as Carolina “Cricket” Diaz, a camper at Camp Stillwater who quickly realizes the supernatural summer camp is anything but typical. The horror-thriller is produced by Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis on the network formerly known as ABC Family. Premiered June 28.
Taylor Dearden in MTV’s Sweet/Vicious
Dearden (BA ’15) stars as Ophelia, one half of a vigilante duo who serves justice on her college campus with her crime-fighting pal, Jules. The pair must juggle their double lives as college students and their work as antiheroes in this MTV show. Premiering this fall.
Ryan Eggold in NBC’s The Blacklist: Redemption
Eggold (BFA ’06) stars Tom Keen, an undercover operative who teams up to fight criminals with a woman he later discovers is his biological mother, played by Famke Janssen. The NBC spin-off drama is created by the writers behind The Blacklist. Premiering this season.
Briga Heelan in NBC’s Great News
Heelan (BA ’09) leads as Katie, a rising news producer who learns that her overbearing mom has returned to the workforce to intern at the television station she works for. The NBC comedy is executive produced by Tina Fey, Robert Carlock and the producers of 30 Rock. Premiering this season.
Devin Kelley in The CW’s Frequency
Kelley (BFA ’08), leading opposite Riley Smith and Peyton List, stars as Julie Sullivan, the mother of a police detective who teams up with her deceased father to solve a murder case. The science fiction drama is created by Supernatural’s Jeremy Carver. Premieres Oct. 5.
Dylan McTee in MTV’s Sweet/Vicious
McTee (BA’15) plays Nate Griffin in MTV’s new dramedy — executive produced by Stacey Sher (The Hateful Eight, Django Unchained), and created and co-executive produced by Jennifer Robinson. Premiering this fall.
J. August Richards in ABC’s Notorious
Richards (BFA ’95) stars as Bradley Gregorian in the new ABC legal drama centered on the relationship between a lawyer and a television producer. The show was created by Josh Berman, known for his work on CSI, Bones and Drop Dead Diva. Premieres Sept. 22.
Anthony Sparks for OWN’s Queen Sugar
Sparks (BFA ’94) serves as a supervising producer and writer for the new drama created by Ava DuVernay and Oprah Winfrey, which focuses on the lives of two sisters who move to Louisiana to claim their inheritance of an 800-acre sugarcane farm. Premieres Sept. 6.
